Darling Jake is gone...

I am not in a poetic mood, nor can I muster something suitable in prose, I am still numb. I was emailed two hours ago, my dear pal Jake, the son of a good friend of mine, has died. His body was found in a park, all alone, I can't believe it, only 26.
Jake was a sweet natured boy, with a gentle sense of humour. He grew into a tall, handsome young man. He had warm dark brown eyes, a good natured smile and a friendly soft laugh. He had friends and many girlfriends too.
I thought sure he would break the mould, not allow himself to become addicted, not fall into bad company, not destroy what chances he had, not ignore what talents and gifts he naturally possessed.
But no, he kept getting caught, his mother is an AA and NA member, she had to let him go, to give him "tough love" and not support him anymore, but, to not stand up for him when he faced gaol, that was hard, I couldn't do that, I'd make a bad AA/NA mother I guess.
I can't believe this has happened!! I thought he was through it all, and was slowly making his way, was the last I heard. I have not lived in their State for nearly four years, time, how it corrodes and chastens, slip fades away...
Dearest Jake, you deserved a better chance, better luck, you needed a caring father there to help you, you needed proper support to make a good go of it, you never let anyone know how hurt you were, how much doubt and lack of self-esteem you suffered from, all hidden under an affable nature, by your flashing smile, now you are gone.
I love you Jake, always in my heart.
