'Business' as usual...?

May 15th 2009 10:33
Obama, the new Prez, has decided to go against his pre-election promise to have all the evidence regarding torture chamber sites, such as photos, released.
Is he the real deal?

Now I am really getting concerned. First he prevents any further investigation of the torturers, and who ordered them to do it, allowing them to get away unpunished, or at least dealt with in some way, and now he is censoring the release of new photos that have been discovered

Obama excuses the torturers...?

April 18th 2009 14:49
Obama, his election, then inauguration, was a marvellous thing to behold. I taped the inauguration, and watched it live, and marvelled at its powerful message, and then became embarrassed, when the fabulous diva of divas, Aretha Franklin, sang with such a strained voice at times. Well, at least she did it live, unlike Yitzhak Perlman and YoYo Ma, et al, who mimed their performance to a tape!

better than musical torture!

Well, I finally got to speak to my pal Max tonight, after finding his mobile number. The story he told me of their escape is truly frightening. Like most people, they prepared their property, as per Country Fire Association instructions. This then, is supposed to allow you to survive the fire, if you stay inside the house, Max told me it does nothing of a kind! Houses have literally exploded on contact with the firestorm front!

He and his partner Barbara, and their dear old cat Samuel, are only alive tonight because a sixth sense told him to flee, and it was almost too late when they did so. The smoke filled sky started to get blacker and blacker, so they threw what they could into their camper van and car and both drove out of their driveway and turned right to get down off their mountain, Mount Disappointment. I have driven up there to see him, and it is a difficult and at times steep drive

I have just become a Great Uncle!

February 8th 2009 03:55
While I sit here worrying about many Victorian friends, still trapped in the bushfires and of those safe but who may have lost everything to the fires, I have one glimmer of good news, I have just become a Great Uncle!

In a brief email reply, to my urgent warning sent late last night, that the fire was now heading in my friend's direction fast, (phone was off) Max sent this short reply this morning;

The Golden Graves of Hollywood

February 7th 2009 05:41
Watching a George Raft movie today, it occurred to me that everyone in that film was dead! Except for some latecomers to that august era, everyone from the famous golden years of film making in Hollywood, are dead. These years spanned from "The Jazz Singer" till the 1950's, as it is generally considered.

It occurred to me the other night, while passively listening to the ABC overnight talkback, that maybe we should challenge the idea of celebrating Australia Day on January 26th?

Corporal Punishment. Good or bad idea?

December 12th 2008 07:39
I was flogged as a child, not by my parents, but by the monks where I was schooled. They were very good at it too. A debate is beginning again, as to the rights of a parent to physically discipline their child. How do you feel about that?

Canes, some monks would have coveted!

Jorn Utzon, the architect of the Sydney Opera House, has died, at the age of 90. Utzon, who won the international competition to design the Sydney Opera House, faced huge obstacles while overseeing its construction, with local authorities making his life miserable and a torment, eventuating in his resignation from the project. Some, who worked on the project, said Utzon was difficult to work with, however brilliant.

The stunning Sydney Opera House, at night.

Mumbai attack terrorists British?

November 29th 2008 07:25
QUOTE: "Two British-born Pakistanis were among eight gunmen seized by Indian commandos who stormed buildings to free hostages, Vilasrao Deshmukh, the chief minister of Mumbai, reportedly said. The Foreign Office earlier said it was investigating reports on NDTV, a local television news channel, that the terrorists - who swarmed luxury hotels and other tourist sites in the city - included "British citizens of Pakistani origin".UNQUOTE

VALE John F. Kennedy 22 Nov. 1963

November 23rd 2008 03:23
It was 45 years ago, that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. I remember that day clearly, as a young whipper snapper, hurtling around the beach and yacht club. I remember seeing a woman sobbing in the street, having just heard of his murder. We were not in America, we were not Americans, but Australians, so far away, yet so very aware of the role that America played in the Second World War, a role that saved our continent nation from invasion by the hoards of Japanese, descending on South East Asia. A role that Britain chose to ignore.

Obama Assassination Plot

August 26th 2008 08:49
I have been waiting, fearing, that this would happen. The extreme right wing must now be very worried, because a plot to bump off USA presidential candidate, Barak Obama, has been discovered. I guess the guys who were behind the murders of JFK, Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King and possibly Malcom X, were not behind this attempt on Obama? I know, I am a cynic, but there is a lot of evidence floating around suggesting a different scenario than we were told about their assassinations.

Lucky escape?

Bizarre Facts. It's Fun!

August 25th 2008 09:56
Since no one is interested in my family (weird) history, poetry, or my revelations about our 'Orwellian' world, (except Bill Green, ta!) and since my most financially rewarding post was about a woman pissing in the gutter, I offer the following, to amuse, titillate and educate, but only a little bit!

The movie, "After the Fox", too often played on ABCTV, is about the humanity of a Master of the Hounds, who saves a poor young red fox, from the vicious jaws of The Hunt; a bearable but dated 60's film. My own version is titled; KILL THE RUDDY FOX! One vile, sneaky, loathsome creature, of the silver fox variety, has tried to assassinate my dear Stella "Babydoll Pugface" the 3rd, just recently!

I am 15 years clean and sober today!

August 6th 2008 10:34
I almost don't believe it myself, but, today I turned 15 years clean and sober, in an AA and NA sense, (Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous). Not one illicit drug, or any type of alcoholic drink, has passed my lips since August the 6th, 1993. And what a day that was to remember, well sort of remember! I used to associate the 6th of August with the atomic bomb destruction of Hiroshima, Japan, in WW2. By the time 1993 had arrived, I felt like I had been destroyed, and in many ways, I had been.

an old enemy, the Margarita Cocktail!!

emission from moon surface

Yes, it is true! The Sydney newspaper, The Daily Telegraph, not normally noted for its belief in UFO sightings, appears to have taken a more open attitude to the subject, after revelations by ex-astronaut Edgar Mitchell last week, by writing the following editoral, and I quote

Former US astronaut, Dr. Edgar Mitchell, has admitted in a radio interview, this week in England, 'I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real,' Dr Mitchell said. 'It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it. I've been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes - we have been visited. Reading the papers recently, it's been happening quite a bit.'
