How The West Won!

"the West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact, non-Westerners never do."

DISCUSS!
It kind of floored me when I first read this...it was posted on the lead page of that now famous (or infamous depending which side of the political divide you are) blog by SALAM PAX, "Where is Raed?"
This guy came to fame as the tanks rolled into Iraq, yet he kept blogging away, telling it like it was on the streets of a city under invasion. It was amazing to read at the time, albeit a little annoying, because of his seemingly intractable, insatiable loathing of us Westerners! It was hard to blame him, under the circumstances. He hated Hussein and now he hated us for destroying his country.
Upon reading the abovementioned quote by Samuel P. Huntington; I first felt a little annoyed, shocked and confronted, then I sat and thought it through...and through...and no, I could not come up with a situation where this statement did not ring true.
Does anyone out there in blogworld have an example where the West has not used organized violence to implant its 'ideals' etc?
Or do you think what we have collectively done in the world, has its merits?
I await your answer, in intrepid anticipation!!

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
Wounded Knee was indeed a black time in American history, amongst many. And here in Australia we have similar horror shows of inhumanity, complete with the genocide of the original Tasmanian Aboriginal race.
It has been a global phenomena through the centuries; the Dutch, the Portuguese, the British and the Spanish have all wrecked havoc upon the "other civilised worlds" they regarded, at the time, as heathen and worthy of destruction and exploitation.
By the way, it is happening now, under a different guise, but always it is for the same purposes, power and money. Iraq's invasion was not about Hussein, it is about oil, and although Australia's military suppport is of little consequence in the overall scheme of things in that awful conflict, it is a public stand being made, declaring we value our oil supply and that of our allies more than we do human rights.
Sad as it is, we commit collectively, as Western nations, more Wounded Knees, more Tasmanian attrocities every single day, and it is happening in front of our inaptly titled 'free press,' before their self censored, blinkered eyes and ears, and they continue this uncritical view of our collective military exploits, not for any idealistic morality, but for the sake of protecting our government's economic interests...and theirs!
cheers
