The Solid Gold Heart of Jimmy Barnes
January 9th 2011 10:07
As I sit watching the charity telethon, to raise urgently needed funds for the victims of the monstrous and devastating floods in Queensland and let us not forget the New South Wales townships and farmers, and now Western Australia is being flooded, I ponder upon what makes a nation strong, and something to admire.
It isn't commerce! It isn't military power! It is the depth of compassion that its people feel, and act upon, when others are in need.
It is times such as these, the very best in community spirit, courage, and generosity wells to the top, and as we sit in drier climbs, shedding a small flood upon our cheeks, we, the little people, can actually can do something about it to help;

One person who is putting his hand up to help is Australia's much loved rock and roller, the great JIMMY BARNES.
Jimmy has just announced that he is going into the studio this week and record a special album for the flood victims.
This is NOT an ego exercise, it is NOT a sneaky way to benefit financially from the situation, Barnes made that absolutely clear, when he said,
EVERY CENT, EVERY DOLLAR, EVEN THE PUBLISHING RIGHTS DOLLARS, WILL BE DONATED TO THE FLOOD VICTIMS.
So, not even the record label will benefit financially from the sale.
That is an amazing gift, as Barnes has a huge following in Australia and further afield, and he will not take a cent for his efforts, nor will he allow anyone else to benefit, ONLY the flood victims.
Barnes may have many Gold Recordsto his name, but, so do many other artists around the world.
However, Jimmy Barnes has one thing the others do not, a SOLID GOLD HEART!
So, BUY HIS FLOOD BENEFIT ALBUM WHEN IT COMES OUT!!!!
Every dollar paid for it will be helping the farmers and families hit by the floods.
The flood victims in Queensland did not have insurance against flooding, because the insurance companies refused to insure them as, historically, this area of Queensland is prone to flooding.
So, how about the INSURANCE COMPANIES PUTTING SOME MONEY IN FOR THE VICTIMS????
But, don't hold your breath waiting for the insurance companies to cough up some of their massive profits.
HEY! I know!
If you work for an insurance company, tell the boss, if the company donates a million dollars to the victims, they will attract a lot of goodwill from all Australians, and I bet a lot more customers too!
This started as a tribute to Jimmy Barnes' wonderful generosity, and so I will end with this;
DEAR JIMMY,
THANK YOU FOR CARING, AND FOR DOING SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE TO HELP THE FLOOD VICTIMS!
YOU ARE A SOLID GOLD HERO...
AND A WONDERFUL HUMAN BEING!!!
REMEMBER, CALL OR DROP INTO YOUR LOCAL RECORD SHOP AND AND ORDER A COPY OF JIMMY BARNES' FLOOD RELIEF ALBUM, COMING OUT ASAP!!!!

thanks for commenting,
yes, the rule of numbers applies, and so much could and should be done to help others this way.
Trouble is, in Africa in particular, so many attempts to help have been thwarted by the despots running the country, who usually steal the food aid given and then sells it to the poor, or takes the aid money, gives some away and keeps the rest. I don't know what the solution is there, except for shooting the dictator.
As per population, we do need to cut back, the fish stock in all the oceans is running low, some species are on the verge of extinction, and the whole balance of the ocean will be thrown out of kilter.
Anyhoo, it is heart warming to see that some people prepared to go the extra mile.
cheers
