Madman turns marshmallow "Peeps" into an art form!

April 10th 2008 18:06
A madman artist has decided to enter an Australian art competition using an American confectionary, known as "Peeps" marshmallows! Peeps come in various lurid colours and shapes, and are seasonal. Recently there were rabbit Peeps on sale.

Assorted Peeps (trademark) Products.

The madman artist has not exhibited before, yet he has recently turned 52! He has no comment about why it has taken him so long, except to say, rather cryptically, that his new form of artistic expression is;

"...revolutionary, challenging, irresponsible, ludicrous, mocking and edible! It also has a psychedelic dream-like quality to it that reinvents the notion of electric sheep. And no, I had not heard of a 'Peeps in diarama' art competition in the States. I came up with my idea independantly. It annoys me though, I thought I was the first. Well, I will just have to be the first in Australia!"

This bizarre statement was met with stoney faces at the hastily arranged press conference. The only noise to break the deafening silence seemed to be more bodily in origin, and was in fact a rather vulgar eructation!

Most journalists agreed it came from the artist himself. They surmised it was deliberate.

An update will be posted on this art event, hopefully with photos of the new artform.

The artist leaves us with this cryptic comment;

"Some may laugh with it, some at it, some may despise it, yet all can eat it! What better art form can there be? It is the only artform that has a use beyond mere decoration, intellectual masturbation and curatorial sychophancy. It is also sustenance!"

An interesting concept, especially for art critics, who can now correctly claim, they 'devoured his work!'

Yes KW,

I can 100% assure you, it is true!

Actually, I should post on the USA diarama competition, but, I see the crummy newspaper sponsoring it has copyright over it all.

As for the local Australian "madman" artist, I in fact know him extremely well, and yes, I have seen his bizarre, (and kind of amusing) work in progress.

It will be exhibited in Katoomba Senior Citizens Art Show, in 15 days time.

I promise I will do a post on it all!!

cheers

Hi Raven,

I am surprised you do not have "Peeps" in the land of ice!

I would have thought polar bear Peeps would be a shoo in!!

However, maybe Peeps wouldn't pass the stringent enviromental codes to get into your wonderland??? After all, they look like they are dyed with toxic radioactive sludge!!

cheers

Hi Morgan,

actually, he is a bit like Andy, in a way...

as for eating a Peeps, for me it sits in the 'required taste' selection on the menu of life, as it is coated in 100% large white and glittery crystalline sugar babe!

oh, and some nice chemicals that make the colours...sigh...I love America, they do BAAAAAD so well!!!

cheers
