NEW AUSSIE ART PRIZE ANNOUNCED!!!!

March 29th 2008 08:58
Yes folks, you heard it on Orble first! A brand new International Art Prize, to rival the current Archibald, Sulman and Wynne Prizes, (currently showing at the New South Wales Art Gallery). These hallowed awards will soon have a rival showcase for not just Australian artists, as the current prizes only cater for, but for all artists internationally! These new art prizes will give the biennale a bang for its buck, they will make the fabled and illusive PHAART ART movement seem tame by comparison!

Drawing by Mountain Fog (1993)

The current prizes, all held by and at the Art Gallery of NS.W., are described by that gallery thusly;

QUOTE:
The Archibald Prize is one of Australia's oldest and most prestigious art awards. JF Archibald's primary aims were to foster portraiture, support artists and perpetuate the memory of great Australians. Since its inception in 1921 the prize has been awarded to some of Australia's most important artists, including George Lambert, William Dobell and Brett Whiteley.

The Sir John Sulman Prize is awarded for the best subject painting or genre painting or mural project by an Australian artist.

The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery in oils or watercolours or for the best example of figure sculpture, by an Australian artist.

These awards are extraordinary, often controversial, always entertaining and revealing of what, who and where Australian art is today.

The new art prize awards, however, will be a confluence of; ideas, styles, designs, lifestyles, prejudices, phobias, misconceptions, propaganda, deviations, fetishes, devotional exercises, quasi-religious exorcisms and political ranting poppycock!

I am sure all on Orble will identify, in some small way, and enjoy them!

The new awards will be known as;

THE ITCHYBALL: a prize for expression of one's perversions, and frustrations, with an accent on exposing the stupefying hyprocrisy of society and its so-called "role models" of today.

THE SILLYMAN: a prize for expression of repressed passive aggression, whereby social mores, public institutions, political leaders, political parties and their hacks, religious leaders and their unappointed lunatic pundits, and any other entity worthy of a lambasting, cops it in the neck, artistically of course!

THE WHINE: a prize for all those who feel their voice is not heard, or their opinion is unvalued and for anyone else interested in expressing something unique in their own life experience, that they find annoying or disconcerting and need a platform on which to spurt their undiluted yet totally unconstructive bile, vitriole and venom!

Somehow, I think the last prize may become my personal favourite.

Anyone interested in applying for the prize, or, who has any interesting comments or additions to make, please feel free to add them below.

Hi Morgan,
thanks for commenting,
and thanks for the compliment!

yes, I have had various 'ideas' for the art world over the years. you should look up my "phaart art" idea, I posted some time back...very naughty of me, but wit and whimsy are the staff of life.

Hi Fog

I forgot to say that I snorted with laughter (for me, a snort means it's really funny, not very becoming, but what the hell), as I was so amazed how good an artist you are.

I know a couple of contenders for the Whine category....!!!

He he, glad you appreciate a good snort. Luckily I was alone, well Fergal was here, but he doesn't seem to mind my strange noises, after all he hears me sing.

I'm still trying to think of people for the other categories...I'll pop back if I do,

Hi TamTam,

thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it!

But, I come from a family of artists, all of whom are far more accomplished than me, I can assure you!

I am not very good at all, in fact I do not call myself an artist, as I am too haphazard in my abilities, okay-ish one day, rotten the next!!! hehe!

cheers
