WELCOME MISTER PRESIDENT
November 16th 2011 11:23
At long last, President Obama has graced our shores, after twice having to cancel, made all the more galling when visits to our northern neighbour, Indonesia, went ahead undisturbed.
However, as incensed as I was at the perceived snub in favour of the mass murdering Indonesian regime, I am wildly happy that the President is finally here.
Even more so, the announcement that America and Australia are going to cement their inter-operability with exercises and training with their troops, the Marines, and their aircraft and sea craft being allowed to share our facilities, comes as very welcome news.
This LONG OVERDUE!
Australia has been expending almost countless billions on defence the last decade or so with little to show for it. On a military site I am a member of, the Aussie military practitioners there squirm and squeal whenever the massive incompetence and budget blowouts are mentioned, the fact that many extremely important projects, like fixing our submarine fleet, have been left to languish without result, the same goes for missile development, major sea craft development, and the list goes on and on, helicopters, fighters, and fighter bombers...
So, now we can relax a little, for we will now have a shoulder to shoulder military involvement that will serve to ensure peace and stability in our region, that together we, the USA and Australia, can answer quickly calls for help in disasters, and that our friend's forces have safe harbour and friendly skies to come to.
If anyone wishes this not to happen, I suggest you read up on the Japanese invasion of South East Asia and Australasia during the Second World War. We all love sushi today, however, had it not been for our friends the Americans, sushi would be all we had to eat today, if indeed there were any Aussies left.
United we stand, divided we fall.
We live in an area where we are the minority, where we are regarded as second class citizens by a number of countries, and where the threat of attack is not a government invention, but a reality that we have suffered on numerous occasions, in Bali and Jakarta in particular.
So, God Bless America!
AND GOD BLESS OUR FRIEND PRESIDENT OBAMA!
P.S. Please don't get jealous about the photo First Lady Obama, PM Gillard already has a mate, called our First Bloke!
