My Ode to Elizabeth Taylor
March 23rd 2011 17:00
We have lost the great Dame Elizabeth Taylor. I loved her from the first moment I saw her, as a seven year old, in the grand epic, Cleopatra. I followed her career in film all my life, and still regard some of her work as second to none.
Dame Elizabeth Taylor dedicated the last twenty years of her life solely to fund raising for AIDS research and personally funded the establishment of an Afican hospital. Dame Elizabeth also tirelessly raised millions of dollars to set up AIDS clinics with her philanthropic organization.
Written in grief and appreciation, of a great star of our times, and an even greater humanitarian.
My Ode to Elizabeth Taylor
Your shadow is long,
as our memory will be lasting,
of a brightness soul dazzling.
Now shall the heavens sparkle,
and violet glitter,
the vault heavenly.
Upon our eyes glinting,
wet with love's tears,
your star,
forever,
brightly.
Your shadow is long,
as our memory will be lasting,
of a brightness soul dazzling.
Now shall the heavens sparkle,
and violet glitter,
the vault heavenly.
Upon our eyes glinting,
wet with love's tears,
your star,
forever,
brightly.

Elizabeth Taylor was certainly one fo my favourite stars. Obviously Virginia Woolfe and Butterfield 8 are her best performances but my favourites are still A Place In The Sun, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Giant and Reflections in a Golden Eye.....
The wife and I are having our own little ceremony tonight with a screening of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and A Place in the Sun,

tanx, and good on you for pointing out Giant, which in my haste and misty eyed state, I completely forgot! And "Cat"...BIG DADDY!! Such a great film.
Must get them all out and have a mini retrospective myself.
Actually, today I tried to get the PR head of one of the smaller theatre chains to do a mini marathon, they were not interested, but, maybe the bigger chains might...

that is one of my long time dreams, to own my own cinema!
If I win lotto, I'll set us up with one, so we can have once a month marathons, double features, shorts, a cartoon and an interval, with candy sellers, just like it used to be.
Oh, and not forgetting tributes and themed movie parties!
We would have a ball JD!!!
cheers
