Chewing stale macadamias
January 1st 2009 16:18
The following poem is my first for 2009. I had made a New Year's resolution, to not sully my beautiful new fountain pen with odes of angst, however, like all well intentioned resolutions I have slipped, slightly, with a tincture of ascerbic wit. The only consolation for braking my promise being, I include myself in the broad swipe I make at people's failure, in keeping their promises.
Happy New Year to all!!
Chewing stale macadamias,
biscuit crumbly softly,
teeth and gum gritting,
all while ruminating,
'bout deeds done spent.
Day one now dawned,
new year's resolutions,
spun by head revolutions;
time toe taps, as awaits,
proof of declarations,
sworn blue true in,
public attestations.
Promises stuttered and oaths uttered,
to change past ways strange;
the idea a harbinger child,
bearing future of hope;
yet, the ramble a gamble,
as often this bairn,
remains undelivered.
Time will toll to tell,
tales told untrue,
by coming year's end;
deaf knelling of knaves,
ring hollow truths,
sound and rebound,
again and again,
pealing their humdrum dreary,
of expended lives wearied.
The perfidy of promises;
from this carping harping carillion,
are cauterized and neutered,
by wisdom's bell mute.

QUOTE ME NO QUOTES!
Happy New Year to you too!
Yes, the ode is a little cryptic, I used some punning, maybe a little too effectively, in being occluded....oh well.. but basically it is about being a 'dumb bell' for swearing to change every new year's eve, only to break the promises by the time the following new years arrives, and 'ad infinitum!'
cheers and may the year bring you much luck and joy.
